For those that read this blog, I'm currently visiting family for the Holidays (Christmas and New Years). As a result, my blogging will be a little sporatic until the new year turns over. I wouldn't overlook the likilihood of posts before then; if I have time, I've always got things to write about. Just keep in mind, if things seem slow here... it's because my time with family comes first.

In the meantime, feel free to visit my Facebook page. I have more opportunity to post short updates there, than I do posts of longer length here. Regular blogging will resume here during the first week of January.

"The Dream Where Jon Goes To Prison"

Every morning, for at least the last two weeks, I have awoken remembering my dreams (at least until I forget them later in the day). And for me, they are always extraordinarily realistic, and, ironically, seem to tell coherent believable stories. I always wake up disoriented, and have to readjust from dream to reality. It doesn't strike me as normal. Yet it's peculiar and fascinating.

Thursday night I dreamed a story similar to the movie, "The Shawshank Redemption", except very clearly set in a modern-day prison, and without the prison break. I was found guilty of another man's crime -- a young man with wealth and enough family resources to pin his non-murder activities upon me. The judge and jury sent me to lock-up, and the other man went free. In prison, however, I managed to retain my Jon Baas character -- my personality, my attitudes on life, my optimism -- and I soon became well liked (and respected) by my fellow inmates and guards alike. I even had countless opportunities to witness my Christian faith to those around me.

Every week day, I was allowed out of this facility on "work-release" to pursue employment with an upstanding family who owned a small, yet successful greenhouse/gardening business. I assisted with the many tasks around the business, and then returned to lock-up every night. The family took me under their wing, considered me an "adopted son", made me part of their family activities while I was out (on release). One of their daughters (my age) even took a liking to me, and a simple romance seemed to be brewing (with the father's approval even!). I was a product of bad circumstances, yet I made the most of them.... and ended up affecting the lives of those I came in contact with.

...And then I woke up. The story never finished.

It was an extraordinarily real dream -- as all of my dreams are. Yet also one that makes me think of the blessings given to me, and how even the little things enhance my daily life and the lives of those around me. It was also a dream that could very easily have been a successful Christian-themed movie, or even a film like those you'd see on the Lifetime or Hallmark channels on TV.

I've gotten to the point where I'm actually looking forward to the next night's dream (I rarely have bad dreams, although, when I do, they're just as real). It's like visiting a different world or reality while I sleep.

Maybe I'm odd. Maybe I have a strange sense for things like this. Or, maybe I just have an extraordinarily creative imagination that runs free while I sleep. I don't know. Whatever the case, I seem to have a brain that likes to tell stories. And that never ceases to fascinate me!

"Ryan Braun Wins NL MVP"

Congratulations to Ryan Braun of the Milwaukee Brewers... Yesterday, he was named the National League's Most Valuable Player in 2011. He batted .332, hit 33 home runs, had 111 RBIs, and stole 33 bases. He also had a chance to overtake Jose Reyes for the batting title on the last day of the season, but ended up finishing a very close second. His 77 extra-base hits were the best in the league.

Braun is also the 2007 NL Rookie of the Year, and a four-time All-Star.

To put things into perspective (for those of you outside Wisconsin), Ryan Braun is to the Milwaukee Brewers what Aaron Rodgers is to the Green Bay Packers.

Braun is the first Brewers player to win the MVP award in the National League, and the first since Robin Yount won in 1989 -- when Milwaukee were still in the AL East.

Congratulations Ryan. This is an award well-deserved!

"The Flu Stikes the Baas House"

For those of you who don't follow me on Facebook, yesterday (Tuesday) was a pretty miserable day. I was sick. My best guess: the 24-hour stomach flu. The good news is, a day and a half later, I'm pretty sure I'm on the mend. Here's hoping, however, that the other people in Brillion -- those who also reported being sick with the flu this week -- are feeling better as well.

Because the flu, no matter how long it lasts, is nowhere near my concept of fun.

Here's an interesting bit of trivia, and one that makes me very grateful for our present-day ability to better diagnose medical ailments. What I am recovering from, is, most likely, a version of the very same virus that killed U.S. President Zachary Taylor on July 9, 1850. (Source: Wikipedia)

"Rosa is an epic sci-fi short film that takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where all natural life has disappeared. From the destruction, awakes Rosa, a cyborg deployed from the Kernel project, mankind's last attempt to restore the earth's ecosystem. Rosa will soon learn that she is not the only entity that has awakened, and must fight for her survival."

The most interesting thing about this film, though, is that it was made by Jesús Orellana, a Barcelona man who works in the Spanish comic industry. He made this film entirely by himself -- with no budget. He taught himself the art programs necessary, and then spent a year putting it together.

What you see above is the result. It's been played at the Seattle International Film Festival, Screamfest, Toronto After Dark, as well as a few other film events. I think it's quite good. Take a peek and see for yourself.

"Bulgaria's Buzludzha Monument"

Buzludzha National Park is situated right in the middle of Bulgaria at the heart of its rose growing area. Yet, when one arrives at the Shipka Pass, something unexpected awaits them. It's as if a huge flying saucer landed here, in the Balkan Mountains, and was abandoned by its owners.

But it's not a flying saucer. In reality, it's a once-beautiful, very unusual, 30-year-old monument that was opened in 1981 on the 1300th anniversary of the founding of the state of Bulgaria. It was, however, abruptly abandoned less than twenty years later after the fall of communism in Eastern Europe. It's been left to ruin ever since.

In the Star Trek universe, baseball as a professional sport had died out long ago. However, by the time of "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine", it was becoming popular again. Colony worlds were playing it. Captain Benjamin Sisko played it on the holodeck with his son, Jake. At one point (in the DS9 episode, "Take Me Out To The Holosuite"), a Vulcan Starfleet ship even challenged Sisko and his crew to a game. The Vulcans called their team the Vulcan Logicians; the crew of DS9 called themselves the Deep Space Niners. It was a fun episode; a fan favorite even!

Since I'm a huge fan of Star Trek AND baseball, it made sense for me to create a line of Deep Space Niners gear for my store. I've recreated the actual DS9ers logo, as seen in the episode, and I've placed it on a replica baseball cap... as well as t-shirts, a jersey, and other unique items (including a decorative pillow, charm necklace, etc). "The 2011 Milwaukee Brewers Replay"

Last month, the Milwaukee Brewers ended their 2011 season with a bitter loss to the St. Louis Cardinals in Game 6 of the NLCS. They were only two wins away from a World Series appearance. It was a disappointing way to go out, many hearts were broken... but it was a fantastic season getting there. The Crew won the NL Central for the first time in 29 years, they set a franchise record with 96 regular season wins, and fan support couldn’t be any higher.

Sadly, though, all things come to an end. The Cardinals went on to win the World Series, and the Brewers went home to their families. The off-season had begun.

But not all fans relish the lack of baseball after so much excitement. Some wish to look back and ponder the question: What if things had played out differently? With a second chance, and a few changes, could the Brewers have earned a spot in the World Series? Could 2011 have been an even better season?

Enter the Milwaukee Brewers Replay.

But first, a little backstory...

As many of you already know, I'm a hard-core, life-long Brewers fan. I grew up following the team through the '80's, the '90's, and the present. I went to games and events at the old County Stadium with my dad. I filmed a movie at the new Miller Park. I collected Brewers baseball cards. I obtained player autographs. And I simulated dozens of fictional baseball seasons through statistical board games, computer games and the like. My father and I would sit down, and simulate match-ups together using our favorite game, Strat-O-Matic Baseball. I loved that game. It provided hours and hours of "What If..." fun.

I've grown older now, my father and I live in different states, but I still enjoy a good solitary "What If..." baseball simulation every now and then. Only, these days, I do so with the help of Baseball Mogul.

After the great season we witnessed in 2011, I thought it might be interesting to take that “What If..” approach, and, with the help of Baseball Mogul, replay the entire 2011 season. I thought I’d take it one step further, though, and incorporate the input of fellow Brewers fans, like myself, who wanted to help me manage the team. To that end, I set up a social Facebook page, and I’m posting the Replay line-ups, statistics, and game results there on a daily basis. Anyone who “likes” the page, is welcome to help me determine the everyday team moves. Moves like: Who should be in the line-up? Who gets sent down to the minors? Who replaces an injured player? Things like that. It’s a joint effort. An online collaboration between dedicated Brewer fans.

To remain as realistic as possible, I've confined my simulation to the same trades, contracts, schedule and ownership decisions as in real life. However, the roster moves, line-ups, injuries, and everything else on-field will play out differently – as if the 2011 Brewers had a second chance at greatness.

It’s a fascinating idea. A social experiment. And, quite possibly, the first time something like this has ever been done on Facebook.

"Brushless Paintings By Amy Shackleton"

Amy Shackleton doesn't use brushes to paint her pictures. Instead, she applies wet paint to a canvas and then elevates and turns it so that the paint runs in the direction that she wants. After many carefully staged pourings over one or two weeks, she ends up with an extraordinarily brilliant, surprisingly coherent image. Her technique seems to work well for nighttime scenes. Lately, with all the bad economic news coming out of Greece, it's easy to look at the Mediterranean country and see the irresponsible borrowing, the overgenerous retirement benefits, and the employment problems and reluctance to pay taxes that have led to the current economic crisis in Europe. It's a nightmare over there; the socialist economy is in shambles.

But despite all the bad news, there's a lot more to Greece than we often realize. They've had a HUGE impact upon the progression and advancement of every nation on the globe. Here is a list of some of the things Greece is credited with inventing... that we take for granted in our everyday lives:

"The Power of a Press Release"

As some of you may know, I'm a big fan of Conan O'Brien, the late-night talk-show host on TBS. I enjoy his show, and last week, he filmed it in New York City (his studio is in Los Angeles). One of the big things they were planning to do while in the Big Apple, was host a same-sex wedding, on the stage, during one of the episodes.

Now, I won't get into the politics of the event, that's not my point in write about it here. What I did find interesting, was how the event was covered in the media. Quite often, we don't realize just how much our favorite television news program depends upon someone else to write their scrips and news copy. Point of fact, broadcast news is rarely ever original.

Here's a humorous compilation to prove my point. It's a segment from one of those Conan O'Brien shows last week -- before the wedding. Watch for the news clips as the TV broadcasters put their own unique spin on this breaking news for their viewers. Enjoy! ... [video]

"St. Louis Cardinals Win The World Series"

Congratulations to the St. Louis Cardinals for their 11th World Series title. I didn't root for you -- my loyalties remain with the rival Milwaukee Brewers. But I will concede, you had a fantastic post-season! Definitely a joy to watch. Well played. Enjoy the trophy, and we'll see you in 2012.

I've seen spectacular Christmas light shows, but this one's for Halloween. It's set up to correspond with the song, "Party Rock Anthem" by LMFAO, and features animated pumpkin faces that sing along. It also contains tombstones, hand-carved pumpkins, strobes, floods, and thousands of lights. It makes me wonder what these people are going to do with their house for Christmas!

"A 300-Piece Chocolate Bikini"

Former Miss France, Cindy Fabre, wore this chocolate bikini as part of the 'Salon du Chocolat", a yearly trade show for the international chocolate industry, held this year in Aix en Provence, France. It was designed by Benjamin Brass and constructed by Puyricard, an artisan chocolate company.

The entire outfit consisted of more than 300 pieces of chocolate carefully sculpted together in a gladiator-style bikini, including chocolate truffles, chocolate hearts and caramel filled chocolate bites. Even her shoes were covered in chocolate.

Fabre accessorized with a huge chocolate bangle and some brown feathers in her hair. She posed with a selection of metal bowls and whisks that are typical of those used to make chocolate treats.

I'm not really big into the fashion scene, but I've gotta admit, this is one of the more appealing outfits I've seen made out of food. Impractical, yes, but nonetheless striking! Would you wear something like this?

"Milwaukee Brewers: The End of a Season"

Yesterday, it came to an end. The St. Louis Cardinals beat the Milwaukee Brewers in game six of the NLCS. The Cardinals move on to the World Series; the Brewers go home.

It's a bittersweet loss. Milwaukee has not had a team play in the World Series since 1982. Ironically, it was the Cardinals that beat them back then too.

This year, the Cardinals just outclassed the Crew. They played well, they got more runs over the plate, everything was clicking. In the end, they closed it out with a 12-6 victory. I would've liked to see the Brewers win, and the NLCS go on to a game seven. I could've handled a loss in seve; this just seems so premature, so sudden. But, it is what it is.

Congratulations to the St. Louis Cardinals. Best of luck in the big Series. Play well, keep up the winning ways. Do your fans proud. I, however, am going to have to root for the Texas Rangers. You've played in 18 World Series, and won ten of them. The Rangers have played in one (last year), and lost. I've gotta side with the underdog.

In five and a half months, the Milwaukee Brewers will try for the championship all over again. Their first game of the season will be on Friday, April 6, 2012 at Miller Park. Their opponent: The St. Louis Cardinals. You can bet THAT series will be sold out!

So... here's to the Brewers. You had a fantastic season! You made it into the post-season, and were eliminated only two wins shy of the World Series. It was a spectacular run! Entertaining. Thrilling! Dramatic. Come back and do this again next year... and we'll be supporting you.

Why?

Because Brewer fans ~~want~~ crave a World Championship! We've never had one. There's a deep hunger. 42 years is a long time to wait!

"Rap Tribute to Joss Whedon's Firefly"

Those that know me, know that I'm a big Sci-Fi geek. I love Star Trek. I time travel. I love the vast wonders of space. But I also love Joss Whedon's "Firefly". It is, in my opinion, the best science fiction television series ever produced.

Unfortunately, "Firefly" didn't last too long. FOX in it's infinite lack of wisdom, canceled the show after one season. They didn't think it had potential. Yet, here we are years later, and the series is still receiving high praise and developing a huge fan following.

One of the neat things about the cult fandom of "Firefly", is the steady stream of unofficial content being released. Fans write songs, produce video tributes, write stories, release artwork, perform skits... the list goes on. One of the latest items to be released, is a full-length nerdcore rap album titled "The Browncoats Mixtape".

It's produced by Adam WarRock, a former attorney and now the internet's foremost "comic book rapper". The album features samples from both the TV show and the follow-up film "Serenity", and is devoted to the crew of the starship Serenity.

Here's one of the singles off the Mixtape titled "Mal". It focuses entirely upon the popular character of Captain Malcolm Reynolds, played by the ever-cool Nathan Fillion. I'm not a big rap fan myself, but this song I like. It's catchy; a great tribute. Give it a listen, and enjoy!

"Braves Win The World Series"

Fifty-four years ago today, on October 10, 1957, the Milwaukee Braves won the World Series after shutting out the New York Yankees 5-0 at Yankee Stadium. Lew Burdette got the win, and was later named the Series MVP. During the series, he pitched three complete games and two shutouts. This made him the first pitcher since Christy Mathewson in 1905 to pitch two shutouts in a World Series.

1957 was the ONLY year Milwaukee has gone to the World Series.

"Brewers vs. Cardinals in NLCS"

Tonight, by a nail-biting score of 3-2, the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Arizona Diamondbacks in the fifth game of the 2011 NLDS series. In the bottom of the 10th inning, fan favorite Nyger Morgan hit a single into center field, Carlos Gomez scored from second base, and the Brewers earned the decisive third win to send them to the National League Championship Series.

The St. Louis Cardinals beat the Philadelphia Phillies in their final game later in the evening, and, as a result, the Brewers and Cardinals -- the two best teams in the National League -- will square off for the chance at a World Series appearance. The first game in the best-of-seven NLCS series takes place on Sunday afternoon, 3pm (CST) on TBS.

During the regular season(s), the upstart Brewers and tradition-bound Cardinals are rivals in the National League central division. Neither team is particularly fond of the other. As a result, this should prove to be an exciting high-profile match-up!

For those that don't know Brewers history, this is the first time in 29 years that the Milwaukee Brewers have won a Playoff series. The last time they made it this far was in 1982. They were in the American League at the time, and beat the California Angels in that year's ALCS match-up. That sent them to the World Series where, ironically, they played the St. Louis Cardinals... and lost.

1982 was the the only time the Brewers advanced in the Playoffs... and the only time they appeared in the World Series.

So, as you can imagine, Brewers fans are overjoyed. And they have every right to be. A season like this has only came around once in the entire 41 years of the Milwaukee Brewers. ONCE. 1982. This time around, the Brewers look to change their fortunes.

Back in 1982, I was only 2-years-old. I had no idea what baseball was at the time. I grew up in Southeastern Wisconsin. I was a Brewers fan since I knew what the sport was. I've come to appreciate the 1982 season through the accounts in history books, but never in my life have I had the opportunity to experience my home team -- the team I follow with a passion -- make it this far into the Post-season. It's exciting, and surreal; to say the least.

Yes, this is a big year for the Brewers, the city of Milwaukee and the state of Wisconsin. They'll be playing 4-7 games against the St. Louis Cardinals... and I'll be watching. You bet I'll be watching! Naturally, I would love to see my Brewers have another shot at the World Series. But whatever happens, win or lose, this will have been one of the greatest seasons in franchise history. And that alone is something I will treasure -- and appreciate -- for the rest of my life.

Here's to the Brewers. Play well. Win for the fans. Because, for the first time in 29 years, the whole country is watching. It's been a long wait. Time to shine!

"Milwaukee Brewers - The Beasts of Brewtober"

Back in 1982, the Milwaukee Brewers were the winners of the MLB American League pennant. They gained the nickname, "Harvey's Wallbangers" because of their fantastic hitting power under mid-season manager Harvey Kuenn. This year, in 2011 and the Playoffs, the team has taken to what has affectionately been called, "Beast Mode".

First-baseman, Prince Fielder compares it to the popular kid's movie, "Monsters Inc." Two actions are required to enter the team's beast mode: First of all, you must make a great play. Second, you raise both hands, preferably above your head, pose your fingers like an attacking wild animal, and then roar.

It's become an iconic gesture associated with this season's winning Brewers. As I understand it, boisterous outfielder Nyjer Morgan was the first person to call the celebration "beast mode" while being interviewed on the subject by the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinal.

Of course, criticism of this celebratory gesture will always abound. The Brewers don't want to appear as though they're showing up the other team -- like when they got backlash in 2008 for Prince Fielder's home run celebration while playing the San Francisco Giants. Fielder crossed home plate, and then pretended to be the atom bomb while the rest of the Brewers were the fake town in the desert obliterated during nuclear testing. ... See Photo

It was a genius move, but very easily mistaken for rubbing it in the opposing team's face. "Beast Mode", while similar, is much more low-key. But just as genius.

Left-fielder, Ryan Braun explained the whole thing this way:

"We have a lot of fun. The 'beast mode' thing is something that we do for each other to kind of get fired up whenever something positive happens. And I think it's kind of taken on a life of its own. But it's something that we all enjoy doing."

And, ironically, it sums up the 2011 Milwaukee Brewers as they compete into the Post Season. So, I thought it might be interesting to combine the term "Brewtober", a popular term to celebrate the Brewers' rare appearance in the Playoffs, with the whole "beast mode" mentality. To that end, I've put together a video to commemorate the Brewers' successful season, and I shall hereby take a nod from the 1982 "Harvey's Wallbangers", and refer to the 2011 Brewers as "The Beasts of Brewtober".

Will the phrase catch on? I don't know. But it does have a certain ring to it.

"Netflix Adds Star Trek DS9 & Animated Series"

As previously mentioned, today Netflix added "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" to its online video streaming service. DS9 joins the other live action Star Trek series ("Star Trek: The Next Generation", "Star Trek Voyager", and "Star Trek Enterprise") which were added in July. Each episode streams commercial-free.

In addition, "Star Trek: The Animated Series" has been added as well. As a result, Netflix now offers the entire Star Trek TV library through it's online offering.

"Brewers vs. Diamondbacks in NLDS"

For those who follow my Milwaukee Brewers postings, here's a quick update. After last night -- one of the craziest nights in baseball history, the Wild-Card teams in the MLB have been decided. In the National League, the Atlanta Braves finished off their historic collapse with an extra-inning loss to the Philadelphia Phillies, and the St. Louis Cardinals trounced the Houston Astros. Since both the Braves and Cardinals were tied going into last night's games, the Cardinals come out on top as the NL Wild-Card.

And, since the Cardinals are the NL Wild-Card, that means the Milwaukee Brewers will be playing the NL West division champs, Arizona Diamondbacks, in the first round of the Playoffs. The match-up begins on Saturday at 1:07pm (CST) in Milwaukee. It'll be televised live on TBS.

It'll be a best-of-five series. The first team to win three games moves on to play the winner of the Phillies/Cardinals match-up. The winner of the second round match-up goes on to the World Series, where they'll play the top American League team. I'm rooting for the Brewers to go all the way! Of course, anything goes in the post-season; that's what makes October and the MLB so exciting!

This is the fourth time in 42 years that the Milwaukee Brewers have made it into the Playoffs, and only the third time they've won their division to get there (they won the AL East in 1981 and 1982; NL Wild-Card in 2008). So, for those not from Wisconsin, it's a pretty big deal around here!

The Green Bay Packers won the NFL Super Bowl this past winter. Can the Milwaukee Brewers win the MLB World Series this Fall? Stick around. We'll find out.

This is the ultimate in geek: The famous John Williams "Imperial March" from Star Wars... played on two floppy disk drives. It's been done before, but this is perhaps the best rendition I've ever heard. And for those who are curious, the sound comes from a magnetic head moved by a stepper motor. To make a specific sound, the head must be moved with appropriate frequency.

The sound is not a music file; it's created on the hardware itself. Brilliant!

"Star Trek: The Next Generation Remastered"

While it was rumored for some time, yesterday, CBS made it official. They will be remastering (in HD) all 178 episodes of the iconic "Star Trek: The Next Generation" television series. Each episode will be re-scanned from the original film elements and visual effects elements will be re-composited for mastering into Blue-ray, syndicated release on television, as well as digital distribution via Netflix and other online rental services.

The project is being released just in time for the 25th anniversary of the series in 2012. A sampler featuring four of the episodes will be released on January 31, 2012, with all seven seasons to follow. Cayce Zavaglia is the kind of artist I love to feature on this blog. She's found a way to turn something usual and commonplace, into something unique and extraordinary. Using simple crewel embroidery wool, and techniques borrowed from the worlds of drawing and painting, she creates like-like portraits that look a lot like oil paintings!

She created a system of sewing colored threads in a sequence that gave the illusion of a certain color or tone. The direction in which the threads were sewn mimics the way lines are layered in a drawing or painting, and, as a result, gives the portraits depth, volume, and form. Over time the stitches have become tighter and more complex, presenting the image of flesh, hair, and cloth.

"The Ruins Of Bannerman's Island"

Did you know, there are the ruins of a castle sitting empty upon Pollepel Island (on the Hudson River) -- only 50 miles north of New York City? At first glance, you might think the abandoned and decaying remnants are located in Europe... or somewhere in Ireland; the architecture is very unique. But no... it's definitely on American soil.

It's called Bannerman's Castle, and while it looks like the ruins of a castle, it's actually an old abandoned military surplus warehouse, built in the early 1900's by wealthy Scottish immigrant, Francis Bannerman VI. Here are some photos of old Bannerman's Castle, as well as the history surrounding it's abandonment. It's a fascinating story, and one most American's probably know nothing about. "Playoff Fever 2011: NL Central Champions!"

The Milwaukee Brewers have done it! They're going to the Playoffs!

On Thursday, the New York Mets defeated the St. Louis Cardinals, dropping the Brewers magic number to clinch the NL Central to 2 games. Today, with one epic swing of the bat, Ryan Braun's three-run Miller Park homerun -- in the bottom of the 8th inning -- launched the Crew to a 4-1 win over the Florida Marlins. Half an hour later, the Cubs beat the Cardinals, and Milwaukee earned it's title!

The last time the Brewers earned a division title was in 1982 -- 29 years ago. They made it into the Playoffs in 2008, but as the NL Wild-Card. This time, they're going in as champions!

The Brewers still have five more games to play in the regular season. They may not be fighting for a Playoff spot anymore, but they still have another goal to reach. They need to end the season with more wins than the eventual NL Wild-Card team (either the Atlanta Braves or St. Louis Cardinals) as well as the NL West champions, the Arizona Diamondbacks. If they do, they will avoid having to play the NL best Philadelphia Phillies in the first round of the Playoffs. Back in 2008, it was the Phillies who defeated the Brewers in the first round, and then went on to win the World Series.

The most likely first-round match-up this season will be the Brewers vs. the Braves -- a battle of the Milwaukee teams. The Atlanta Braves used to play in Milwaukee in the 1950's and '60's. They are the only team to win a World Series in the Brew City (1957). The Braves may be a Southern team now, but there's still a history here in Wisconsin. Put the two teams together in the Playoffs, and it could be a very interesting series.

So, here's to the Brewers in October. May their playoff fortunes be as dramatic as their season. And may Wisconsin end the year with yet another world champion!

The Brewers lost to the Cubs last night, while the Cardinals beat the Phillies. This drops the Brewers lead in the NL Central to 5.5 games, and leaves their magic number to clinch the division at 4 games. If you do the math, this means the Brewers cannot clinch until tomorrow (vs. the Cubs, in Chicago). For this to happen, they will need to win their next two games, while the Cardinals need to lose those two.

I doubt this will happen. Instead, I predict the Brewers will be celebrating their first division title in 29 years on Friday -- with a win over the Florida Marlins in Milwaukee. Better at home than away, right?

"A Weekend At The Cottage"

This past weekend, Kelli and I spent a few days at a rustic cottage. The place is owned by my friend's family, and he's been staying there on a two week vacation -- by himself. This past weekend (the mid-point in his stay), he invited his fiancee, and Kelli and myself to join him. So, Kelli and I drove west into central Wisconsin, and got away from the busy-ness of civilization for a while.

Friday night was, for the most part, spent outdoors sitting around a campfire. Marshmallows were roasted, and conversation was lively. In the later evening, the two women went off to chat by themselves, while my friend (Scott) and I walked around the lake, making an after-dark trek up a nearby mountain to the county park at the top. After some creative brainstorming (on a project we're both involved in), we walked back down the mountain, and returned to the cottage.

An hour or so later, everyone went off to bed. The woman had the two available beds in the cottage, and Scott and I slept in the two second-level lofts (which you can only get to via ladders).

On Saturday, the women made breakfast, and then the four of us played a lively game of "Apples to Apples". We hung out for a while, and then by mid-afternoon, walked to the village nearby for dinner. And by village, I mean: a motel, a small dam, a mill/cafe (which was closed for renovation), a "town hall" (in what was probably an old school house), an old mechanics shop (which may have been a gas station in the 1950's), and the "Trading Post" -- a recently-built bar/restaurant constructed of wooden logs. Our dinner was at the Trading Post, and a good dinner it was. Burgers. Very tasty!

After dinner, the women went off to chat again, and Scott and I explored the local rural roads. We walked quite some distance, musing upon the hundreds of trees that had been snapped in half by a recent windstorm (the area around there is heavily wooded), and chatting upon a variety of topics. We eventually made it back to the cottage before nightfall, returning to our respective lofts a few hours later.

On Sunday, the women made breakfast again, this time outdoing themselves from the day before. After that, we hung out, and by late morning, Scott and his fiancee waded into the lake, and removed part of the dock -- a project that required the unscrewing of supports from the lake bed. I helped from the shore.

By about 1pm, Kelli and I packed our gear into the car, bid Scott and his fiancee farewell, and set out for home. Both woman are teachers. Kelli had lesson plans to work on; Scott's fiancee left shortly thereafter (probably for the same reasons).

All-in-all, it was a fun weekend away. I've been to that cottage a number of times before -- while I was still a bachelor and sharing an apartment with Scott in Milwaukee. This was, however, the first time I've been there since I was married.

The WhatWasThere project is a virtual time machine that ties historical photos to Google Maps, and allows you to tour familiar streets to see how they appeared in the past.

Anyone can participate in this project. You can easily upload a photo with two straightforward tags to provide context: Location and Year. If enough people upload enough places, the project will weave together a photographic history of the world (or, at least any place currently covered by Google Maps).

It's a fascinating idea. I may even have to start posting some photos of Brillion!

With the Major League Baseball season winding to a close, and my local Milwaukee Brewers poised to make a rare Playoff appearance, I thought it might be fun to bring back an old blog theme from previous years. I thought I'd start a countdown to the National League Central Division Pennant!

So, that said... let's have at it.

Late last night, I sat down to watch the end of the Brewers game on television. When I joined the program, the contest was in the top of the 11th inning. The Brewers and Rockies were tied 1-1 after a great pitchers duel. Three outs later, the Rockies sat down, and the Brewers got their turn. The first batter up was our very own likely-MVP-candidate, Ryan Braun. After fighting off eight or nine great pitches, he launched a walk-off homerun into left-center, and the Brewers grabbed season-win number 87 (see video below)! Final score: Brewers 2, Rockies 1.

Here's where things stand at the end of this morning:

The magic number represents the combination of wins by the leading team and losses by the second-place team that would clinch the division title.

"The Russian Commercial Space Station"

A Russian company called Orbital Technologies has announced plans for a hotel in orbit -- 217 miles up. It would house seven guests in four cabins, and have huge windows for views of the Earth as it rotates below them. Of course, getting there will half the adventure, as it would take two days aboard a Soyuz rocket. The cost for a five-day stay: $158,000 -- with an addition $790,000 for the journey.

The Commercial Space Station as it's called, is due to open by 2016. Claims are that it will be far more comfortable than the International Space Station currently used by astronauts and cosmonauts.

9/11: Ten Years Later

Up until this morning, my knowledge of 9/11 and the attacks on the World Trade Center were confined to narrated media footage, countless articles... my imagination. I wasn't in New York City on September 11th. I wasn't a survivor. I awoke to the media coverage half-way across the country. For me, today was the first time I saw it first-hand. First-hand from the American who happened to have a video camera handy. First-hand from the emergency worker standing at the foot of the towers before they fell. First-hand from an on-looker unaware that the fires above him would soon be something far more frightening. First-hand from a fireman whose name is now written on a monument in Lower Manhattan.

9/11 through the media coverage was shocking. Frightening. Distant. 9/11 from the camera of an eye-witness is terrifying. Raw. Personal.

Yesterday, on this 10th anniversary of 9/11, I wanted to remember. To reflect. To be thankful. I picked three of the 9/11 programs on television, and spent a few hours revisiting various topics about the day.

One of the programs I selected was that of 9/11 as documented through the raw camera footage of first-hand witnesses. No narration. No media reporters trying to break a story. Just life as it happened. Life as it was experienced.

And, as expected, I was introduced to a great deal of imagery I never imagined: Young people watching from their high-rise apartment a mile away from Ground Zero... watching... wondering... seeing the towers one minute, then gone the next. // Two wide-eyed little children... a confused little girl saying, "The World Trade Center... it's not there." // Listening to radio communication with firemen in the south tower documenting their climb up to the 70th floor.... moments before the tower collapsed to the ground. // Listening to emergency workers, covered in dust, panting for water, drinking their fill, then putting their gear back on... and going right back into the cloud of debris. // Following along with an army -- a sea -- of newly-arrived firefighters, flowing down a New York street toward the wreckage of the first tower, heavy fire hoses wrapped around their shoulders.... only to see those same men moments later, standing silent, stunned, as the dust from the second tower swirled around them. // Watching as a bewildered businessman shuffled slowly out of the cloud, alone, his clothing hanging off of him, covered in dust... dragging his briefcase behind him, and asking... "Where is everyone going?" // Watching as people exited the World Trade Center buildings before they fell... knowing that THEY were the lucky ones. // Seeing stunned New Yorkers in Times Square, looking up, watching the media coverage... their mouths open in horror. // Watching people stand agape at the jumpers choosing free-fall over burning flames.

That's what I saw this morning. 9/11. Real. First-hand.

Ten years ago on a Tuesday, I awoke to the media coverage from my college apartment -- safe in the confines of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The first tower had already fallen. I was awake to see the rest. I was heartbroken, transfixed, angry. I didn't attend any of my classes that day. My heart just wasn't in it.

Today I saw 9/11 from a different perspective. I'll never forget it.

The United States is my home. I'm proud to live here. I'm blessed to live here. I will always remember 9/11. The loss... the unsung heroes... the servicemen and woman... the way it changed my life.

I can forgive (or try to forgive) those who enact their bitter hatred upon my country. I can move on. But I will never forget. Because... it is when we forget that past, when we stop remembering, when we ignor what came before... that is when we doom ourselves to repeat it.

And I don't wish to remember another 9/11.

"First Day of School For Kelli"

Kelli is back in the classroom starting today. Her kindergarten class this year stands at fifteen kids. And unlike last year, it seems to be a good mix of boys and girls -- something Kelli has been eager for. If I remember correctly, she had a classroom of 13 kids last year, two of which were boys. And the year before that, a classroom of 11, with only two or three girls.

As I hear it, a classroom of boys presents a whole different set of challenges than a classroom of mostly girls. Hopefully this year will be more even keel.

I find it interesting too that the first day of school this year is a Thursday. Kelli likes it that way, because the kids can get settled into the school routine on Thursday and Friday, and then start actual classes on Monday. I don't remember it working that way when I was in grade school, but then again, that was over 20 years ago. I guess if it works this way, why change it.... right?

Now that Kelli's back at school, I'll have to get used to her not being around again. During summer, she was still the administrator of the school's Early Childhood program. She had administrative stuff to take care of, and her staff of teachers worked with the kids... most of the time. Occasionally she'd go in and spend the day with the kids, but for the most part, she was home more than she was at school. Now, she's gone all day, and I wake up to a quiet house. I'm the only one here until mid-afternoon.

I don't mind the quiet. In fact, I work best in this kind of setting. Just me, my work, and my office. Still, the absence of wife will take some getting used to.

I've been spending a lot of time adding new products to my online store. Not everyone knows that I do this, or that I even design and sell my own line of merchandise. But, hey, it IS one of my chosen professions. So I though I'd get back into the habit of sharing some here on my blog.

A while back, I used to have a blog feature called "T-Shirt Thursday". Originally, it was an opportunity to show my readers some of the t-shirt items I designed. However, over the years, I've branched out into other products beyond apparel. Now, I design and sell everything from posters, prints, fleece blankets, laptop skins, mugs and much more. Lots of themed categories too, some of which sell very well.

In the coming days, I'll start sharing some of my favorite products again. I won't confine them to once-a-week as I did the first time around, rather, I'll just post a selection when the notion strikes me, and go from there. If any of the products interest you, feel free to share them with friends. I already sell internationally, and have customers as far away as Japan and Australia. None of my public work is a secret.

When I post product images, I'll also write a little about the category or theme as well. You'll hear about why I made those products, what they mean to me, feedback I've heard from others, the successes that have come my way.... that sort of thing. If my work fascinates you, by all means, stick around. There'll be a little something for everyone!

"Pensmore: The Missouri Castle"

There's a castle being built in Missouri. It's called Pensmore, and it's a 72,000 square-foot residence, soon to be the home of Steven Huff, chairman of Wisconsin-based TF Concrete Forming Systems.

Once completed, Pensmore will be considered one of the largest residential homes in the United States. It sits on 500 acres, it's also being made of reinforced concrete, and it has has the capability to withstand an F5 tornado. Completion is slated for 2012 or 2013.

There's a new Star Trek collectible on the market -- a full-size set-accurate replica of Captain James T. Kirk's command chair from the bridge of the Starship Enterprise. Hand-built by Steve Horch, and his company, HMS Creative Productions, this exact replica sells for $5,499.99.

Personally, I think it's a fantastic collectible! A great idea, and a unique product at that. Unfortunately, I don't think my wife would approve of one of these taking up space in the our house.

"NASA Space Shuttle Atlantis Makes Final Landing"

Early this morning, the Shuttle Atlantis landed at the Kennedy Space Center. It was the last flight of the American Space Shuttle Program, and the end of an era. From now on, American astronauts will hitch rides to the space station via Russian Soyuz rockets. It will be at least three years -- maybe more -- before Americans are once again launched into orbit from U.S. soil.

All-in-all, during the course of it's 30-year history, the American shuttle program has launched 135 missions. It's traveled more than 537 million miles in orbit, and has carried 335 astronauts into space -- 14 of whom died when the shuttles Columbia and Challenger were lost.

NASA will continue to study our solar system, astronauts will still go into space (courtesy of the Russians), and unmanned missions are currently being planned. But the future of American manned space missions remains uncertain.

"Hot, Hot, Hot"

The current temperature here in Brillion, WI is 94F. However, with the heat index, it feels more like 106F. And right now, we're under an Excessive Heat Warning -- in effect until tomorrow afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service, an excessive heat warning means that a prolonged period of dangerously hot temperatures will occur. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a dangerous situation in which heat illnesses are possible. To avoid such situations, drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, and stay out of the sun.

This is, without a doubt, the hottest day so far this summer. Apparently, it's also some of the hottest weather we've seen since July 1995. Back then, on the 13th and 14th, temperatures in this area climbed above 100F. We're not there yet this year, but we're close. And that's hot enough in my book.

"Wedding Anniversary Weekend"

This past weekend was my 1st wedding anniversary; Kelli and I have been married for twelve months now. In the grand scheme of things, that's not a lot, but it is a successful start to the years that will follow. Personally, I'm rooting for 49 more. We'll see; God holds the cards on that one.

I actually put together some fun plans to celebrate this weekend. On Saturday, I was prepared to surprise Kelli and take her on an old-fashioned picnic. She said she wanted to go somewhere (away from Brillion), and previous plans to spend time up in Door County hadn't worked out. So my idea was to put together picnic gear and head east to the shore of Lake Michigan. Manitowoc's Silver Lake Park seemed like a scenic spot. Plus, it was close-to-home, yet along the same beautiful water that borders Door County to the north.

Unfortunately, a number of factors got in the way. Kelli wasn't feeling up to a picnic, it was a warm muggy day, and, as we later found out, it was raining when we would have been laying out on the grass. So, we ended up going out to eat at Red Lobster instead, which was just as enjoyable. Lobster is a treat in our corner of the world. We might still try the picnic idea later in the week -- just for the fun of it.

On Sunday, I treated Kelli to another meal out -- this time, as originally planned. We went to Olive Garden, and enjoyed a tasty Italian dinner. Afterwards, I had planned for us to return home, crack open a bottle of wine, and cuddle on the couch while watching a romantic movie. As it turned out, though, we ended up doing a little shopping at Barnes and Noble, and then went to the movie theater to see "Kung Fu Panda 2" instead. Not quite as romantic as I had hoped, but still well worth the change in plans. Good movie too. Maybe even better than the first.

As I've been told, Kelli and I will probably follow up on the wine and romantic movie idea later in the week as well. It just won't be an anniversary thing.

I also got Kelli some chocolates. She likes chocolates. Unfortunately (as should probably have been expected), I couldn't find her the romantic collection that I wanted -- stores around here just don't seem to carry that sort of thing. So I compromised, and got her some of her favorites -- that the store did have. Not quite the same thing. But, it's the thought that counts.

In the end, my anniversary plans didn't quite work out as I had hoped, but it still turned out to be a wonderful date weekend nonetheless. I like to be creative with my romance ideas, even if things change at the last minute. I did arrange, though, to have a dozen red roses delivered to Kelli on Saturday morning. She really liked that. For months she'd been commenting that I never got her flowers. But I had good reason. I wanted to surprise her this weekend. And, I think I did. She's drying one of the roses as we speak -- to save it's beauty indefinitely.

Now that it's Monday (July 11th), the weekend is over, and a new year of marriage begins. I don't know what's in store for the two of us in the NEXT twelve months, but I do know this: I have an amazing wife, and if year two is anything like year one... it'll be a wonderful, exciting, always-learning-something-new adventure -- the kind that keeps you on your toes, but yet always finds a way to fascinate. It's usually full of unexpected moments, but it's ALWAYS memorable!

And memories are what bring people closer together.

So... here's to year two. The unknown continues. Let's see what awaits!

"Kelli Returns; Anniversary Begins"

Kelli is back in town again; she returned to Brillion this afternoon. She was sad to have to leave her family in Tomah -- sad to the point of tears. She would have stayed longer if she could, but this weekend is also our first wedding anniversary. As of Sunday, she and I will have been married for a year. Naturally, that was a pretty good reason for returning home early.

I do have things planned for the weekend. I haven't told her about them yet, so I can't say what they are here either. But suffice it to say, I think they'll be worthy of our first anniversary. I'm kinda new to this, so we'll see how things work out. People used to tell me -- before we were married -- that my romantic ideas put other men to shame. I don't know how accurate that is, but I can say this... love is a great motivator. It gets you thinking, brainstorming, trying to find ways to express your love. And I have a lot of love for my wife. So... we'll see.

If you're curious about what's in store, stay tuned. I'll probably write about the weekend, and our anniversary activities, a little after the fact.

For now, though, the house is back to normal. The temperature is adjusted back to the wife's preferences. The TV remote reverts back to Kelli's control. And my bachelor-like schedule returns to the husband zone. Hanging out on my own was fun, I enjoy my solitude. But I missed my wife too.

So, here's to a fun weekend, and a great first anniversary with the wife! I'll let you know how it goes!

"The Final Launch of the Space Shuttle"

Today marks the end of an era. Today was the final launch of the American Space Shuttle Program. The shuttle Atlantis lifted off successfully from the Kennedy Space Center at 11:29 (EST) this morning. They'll deliver supplies to the International Space Station, and then return to Earth in 12 days. After that, all NASA astronauts will launch into space aboard Russian Soyuz spacecraft.

"A Week of Solitude"

This week I get the house all to myself. Kelli went home to visit family in Tomah on Friday, and I stayed here in Brillion to work. Seven to eight days of vacation. She'll be returning home at the end of the week.

So far, it's been a relatively normal few days. Nothing much happening out of the ordinary. I've been staying indoors with the air conditioner on to beat the heat, and I've been watching a little Star Trek on Netflix here and there. I've also been cooking for myself -- nothing fancy. In a way, my former bachelor self gets to resurface slightly. I still abide by house rules (set forth by the wife), but for the most part, I'm enjoying my solitude.

This is also the first time Kelli and I have been apart for an extended period of time since we were married. She brought it up before she left, so it probably weighs upon her a bit more than it does me. But for the most part, we both seem to be handling it well.

Tomorrow, I might venture out into the city. Maybe take a walk, grab some photographs, run a few errands. I've been doing a lot of office work since Kelli left. Stretching my legs will do me good.

I also plan to blog more personally in the coming days and weeks, so stay tuned for that. More of my thoughts, perspectives, motivations, etc. You'll probably hear a lot more about Brillion as well. It's summer; 'tis a good time to get out and explore the local history.

"Star Trek Begins Streaming on Netflix"

As of this morning, Netflix began streaming hundreds of Star Trek episodes. Right now, all of the original Star Trek series, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek Voyager, and Star Trek Enterprise are available for streaming. Star Trek: Deep Space Nine will be available on October 1st.

Each series gets its own page on Netflix, with season tabs allowing you search and find any episode. You can add the series to your instant queue, or you can just click the play button next to any episode. Each episode streams commercial-free, and is available to subscribers in the USA.

This is the first time that Star Trek: The Next Generation has been available digitally, and the first time Star Trek: Voyager is available via streaming. The original Star Trek and Star Trek: Enterprise are being shown in HD (720P). And the original series episodes are indeed the "remastered" versions featuring the new CGI digital effects (well worth watching, if you haven't seen them yet).

If you've been itching to watch some Star Trek, but don't own all the series on DVD, now you can sit down and enjoy them -- on-demand -- from the comfort of your nearest Netflix-ready device.

In the last few years of the 20th century, the Mayor of Lille in northern France was presented with a dilemma. The old swimming pool in the small town of Roubaix had been closed in 1985 due to safety problems. It could have been knocked down and replaced with a new building, however, the locals were very fond of the pool, and it was a stunning example of Art Deco architecture.

The health and safety issues meant that the building could no longer be used for as a pool. Yet it was a beautiful building. A creative solution was needed.

The final decision: turn it into a museum! Take a peek!

"Brillion, Wisconsin Now Has A Facebook Page"

I was working on an unrelated project earlier this month, when I discovered that my present hometown of Brillion, Wisconsin didn't have a Facebook page. There was no online community for local Facebook users to interact, be social, share photos, discuss recent events, stay updated on local news and culture, that sort of thing. Heck, hardly any of the local businesses have active Facebook communities either. That surprised me. Do Brillionites not use the internet for business or social networking?

It seemed like an area of technology that was being gravely underutilized.

So, me being from the big city, where that sort of thing is commonplace, I decided to toss my hat into the ring, and pursue the opportunity. I may be one of Brillion's newest residents, and not everyone knows me yet... but I do love my new home. I have a passion for it (and a public persona to go with). Putting together an online culture/news source for Brillion made simple sense. Besides, not even the local once-a-week Brillion newspaper uses Facebook (or even maintains the page they already have).

Like I said... surprised.

As anyone in the area of online marketing will tell you, Facebook is the wave of the future. The things a business or brand can do on Facebook grows by the week. And if you want to build a relationship with supporters, grow your customer base, increase visibility... Facebook is the place to do that. It opens up so many doors. Especially with so many people using the site these days!

So, with that in mind, I've decided take the lead, build a relationship with the residents of Brillion, start growing an online community, and, ultimately... promote the city.

"Jon = Recovering From Illness"

I've been sick the past couple of days. Last week, Kelli had the flu. I don't know if that's what I've had (she was a lot worse off than I am), but it's still been enough to knock me out. I've been weak; haven't had a normal appetite or the energy to do much, I've slept far more than usual, I've been nursing an uncertain stomach, and I've spent most of my waking hours watching movies and television shows on Netflix (via our new Wii).

I'm pretty sure I'm on the mend now. I feel stronger, less exhausted. I'm hoping I can get back to business as usual tomorrow.

For those of you that have been wondering where I went... now you know. I like blogging; it's one of my favorite things to do, but in cases like this, my health always comes first. Here's hoping none of you were in the same boat as me.

"Brillion Electric Parade 2011"

Tonight I went to the Brillion Electric Parade. It was being held on main street at 9pm as part of this weekend's Brillionfest. All the typical small town parade features were there: people in lawn chairs lining the street for as far as the eye could see; decorated night-time floats with strings of twinking lights; street vendors selling glow-sticks; potential political candidates handing out flyers; candy being tossed to eager children waiting on the curbs; local county fair royalty; floats/vehicles for almost every business in town; about a dozen fire trucks from every nearby community; marching bands; the mayor in a classic convertible; a flat-bed semi carrying the state champion football team; and more. It was a fascinating experience!

And, I say fascinating, because I don't think I've been to a small town parade in over 20 years. And not because I didn't want to.... but because I've lived in the big metropolis for the past 20 years. Parades in the big city are very different from parades in small towns. It's a completely different culture.

Point of fact, for me, as I stood on the curb watching tonight's parade, I was surprised by some of this local small town culture. Here in Brillion, one of the big three factories is the Brillion Iron Works. It's a huge facility; not at all something you'd expect to see operating in a city of only 3,000 people. But nonetheless, Brillion is its home. In the parade, their float was a mere semi. No decorations, no lights, just a typical semi truck/trailer driving in the parade. As I discovered, here, a parade is all about getting your corporate logo seen. And... well... their logo is on the side of all of their semi trucks.

Another thing that I'm not used to seeing is all the farm equipment. In the parade. And we're talking everything from the cool old-fashioned John Deere tractors, to the HUGE modern you-can-drive-a-car-under-me crop harvesters and machinery. In short, two-story tall farm machinery. Sting up some lights on one of those bad boys, and you have yourself a parade float! In tonight's parade, where were at least half a dozen of those monsters.

You definitely don't see that in the big city!

Another thing that intrigued me were the golf carts. There were a few of those in the parade as well. Some of them were lit up with lights, others were just there carrying notable people. Some were just plain simple golf carts with someone standing on the back holding a sign. I can't really give them points for creativity there, but, I suppose you just go with what works.

One of the most fascinating units in the parade -- at least for me -- was a marching band from Milwaukee. Big city Milwaukee. My old hometown. The Milwaukee that resides 100 miles southeast of Brillion. I was pleasantly surprised to see them too; way up here. I don't remember the name of the band, but they seemed about as close to a skilled drum corps/professional marching band as you can get. A nice addition to all the local floats, signs, and musical groups.

Where I come from, a big-city parade is usually creatively decorated floats. Flowers. Ribbons. Wood frame contructs. At least a dozen marching bands, one for each of the many high schools and colleges in the area. Lots of horses. Police on horseback. Rows of military veterans. Rows of reenactors portraying soldiers from past wars. Clowns. Crazy clowns in tiny cars. Fancy classic cars. Military vehicles. Loud music blaring from floats as they pass by. Singers singing from floats. People dressed in costumes lit up by thousands of tiny lights. Dancers. Guys on stilts. People on big bikes. People on little bikes. Professional series race cars. Costumed characters. Street performers. Things like that.

Big cities have more resources and manpower that allow them to create more elaborate parade units. And they're a sight to see, believe me! But one thing I like about these small town parades -- like the one I just watched on main street, is the resourcefulness of the proud farmers, business owners, and local citizens. When you don't have those deep pockets or the master float builders like the big city... you turn what simple things you do have into something worthy of the whole town turning out to watch. And believe me, around here, the whole town turns out for a parade.

It's a different culture here. It's more intimate. Personal. Inviting. Passionate. All things I didn't experience as much in the two-million-people-strong Metro Milwaukee area. But here... it's a way of life. And it's the driving factor behind everything Brillion does. Even parades.

I may be from the big city; I'll always miss the big city. Someday I may go back. But for now, with each small town cultural aspect that I experience here in Brillion... I find this place growing on me more and more. I grew up in a town half the size of Brillion. Then I lived in big cities for 20 years. Now, I guess you could say... I'm back to my roots.

It's a fascinating experience! No question about it.

So... here's to Brillion, and a parade well done. ... [hat tip] ... I've never been much of a parade-goer. But after tonight, I'll admit, I'm already looking forward to next year.
