Two hundred and thirty-seven years ago today, on July 4, 1776, a
powerful declaration was made. It was the work of an extraordinary group
of men who, with the support of 12 colonies, sought independence from
the hand of an oppressive British monarchy. It was a declaration of
political independence that would forever change the face of history.
In
2008, an HBO mini-series was released about the life of John
Adams. This is a moving video featuring clips from that
series, particularly those documenting the final phase of independence
in Congress, and the public announcement of the Declaration of
Independence on July 4, 1776.
This is why we celebrate
the Fourth of July here in the United States of America. This is why we
are who we are. Let us never forget the bravery of our ancestors.
